‘Will, head west, 2.3 miles.’ Emily ordered to Will on the radio communications. The other three members of the Adrarift were in the sub, just south of the Lighthouse, they were heading in to sea, and towards Rockhopper Island.
‘How long are we going to be on this thing?’ James asked. ‘How long is a piece of string?’ Sara asked, knowing there is no answer. ‘Um… about this long…’ James made a random measurement with his fingers. ‘That isn’t funny, Mr Clever.’ Sara replied. ‘Okay you two, stop arguing, I’m trying to drive this thing.’ Will ordered. A couple of seconds silence… ‘Am I right, I heard arguing?’ Emily said who was sitting in the comfort of the base, guiding Will from the inter-com. ‘It’s finished now.’ Sara replied. ‘Okay, turn a bit north west, about 0.4 miles.’ Emily guided. ‘Hey, Rockhopper needs one of these; he’s a bit slow, come on, about a mile a day? How much does he weigh?’ James laughed at his own joke, which seemed not to entertain the rest of the crew. ‘Ha… Ha…’ Will responded, feeling like he had to.
After a few more minutes and they had hit land, they climbed out, and they got a final warning from Emily.
‘You guys watch your back, anything could be over there.’
They walked in to a large forest and looked up a destroyed cliff, the remains of a large building stood on top, also in bits.
Towards the side of the forest they found a penguin, in a… general’s gear. He welcomed the team.
‘Hey! This must be the team Jimmy was talking about, let me remember, Adrorait? No, Adroraift… No it’s definitely Adraraift. No it’s certainly…’ The penguin gets butted in by James. ‘Adrarift, I think you mean, I am the leader of this group.’ James replied. ‘No your not you…’ Sara shouted. ‘Oh hi James! Lovely to meet you, I believe you are looking for Jimmy, one of the members of the group.’ The penguin said. ‘Ah, yes! My second in command, Jimmy!’ James responded, but shortly after, he became confused. ‘How… did you know my name?...’ James asked, but got interrupted by the general penguin. ‘Time to go inside, don’t you think?’ The general asked. ‘Yes I really do.’ Sara said, stressing and emphasising the ‘do’. Sara began to take lead, she walked forwards to where the general penguin was standing, the general and Sara began walking forwards, up the face of the cliff and round the back, the team followed closely behind. ‘We are heading to Kendal.’ The general said. ‘Kendal? And what is your name?’ James asked. ‘I am General Blobber of the Kendalites.’ General Blobber replied.
For some reason, there was silence for a moment.
‘Sara! I got a trace on Kendal! Kendal General Hospital, Kendal Wilderness, Rockhopper Island.’ Emily said down the inter-com. ‘General Hospital? How come Rockhopper has never spoke about this?’ Sara responded on the inter-com. ‘Well, you have a Kendal person here, why not ask him?’ Emily replied. ‘He called himself a Kendalite, look in to that name for us, okay?’ Sara asked. ‘Will do, remember, and be safe, I want you back in one piece, Jimmy or no Jimmy.’ Emily said. ‘Gotcha Em!’ Sara said.
‘So uh… Isn’t this Rockhopper Island?’ Sara asked the General. ‘Ha. Rockhopper, that daft penguin? No, this is Kiro Island, home to 3 tribes, we are the Kendalite tribe. The tribes sometimes go to battle, currently we have a truce with the Sarawum Tribe, funny name, I know.’ General Blobber replied. ‘So does Rockhopper know about you lot?’ Sara asked. ‘No, don’t be silly! He doesn’t dare go past the cliff we just past, he thinks its “bad”. We call this area the Kendal Wilderness.’ The General replied. ‘So where are we going?’ Sara wondered. ‘To where Jimmy is being cared for.’ He said. ‘Why? What’s happened to him? Is he alright?’ Sara asked, but couldn’t get it out quick enough.
There was a few seconds silence.
‘Well?’ Sara said, waving in front of the General’s eyes.
‘You want to know? He has no heart.’ The General said, breaking the news. ‘Buh… That means he’s dead? No heart, no blood pumped around body, death.’ Sara said, sad and sickened. ‘He is the living dead.’ The General explained.
There was silence, the team, James, Sara and Will had their mouths wide open, staring at the General.
‘Uh, did I just hear correctly?’ Emily said down Sara’s ear-pod. The General robbed the ear-pod. ‘Yeah you did!’ General Blobber shouted down Sara’s ear-pod.
Emily’s mouth dropped too, she hit the disconnect button in shock.
The team wondered what happened, would he be the same? Is he actually dead and is the General lying?

| Spoiler: | | | Chapter 4; - One Down
‘Ha-ha! The team are acting as expected, and General Blobber is doing his job! Excellent!’ A mysterious, deep voice spoke. ‘Sir, shouldn’t we launch Plan 2 now? The team are getting pretty close to their destination, and if they see nothing is there… Well they’ll start asking questions…’ Another mysterious, but slightly higher voice said. ‘Yes, we should, care to do the honours?’ The deep voice asked. ‘I would love to!’ The high voice said. There was the sound of heavy machinery, then the sound of a high pitched, mechanical squeal, like something in need of oil. The two voices began laughing hysterically, watching a large monitor, and on the monitor were Adrarift, walking through large fields of crop.
‘Ugh, how much further do we have to walk…?’ James asked, feeling dead. ‘Tired are we? Come on, it’s an adventure, a bit of a walk.’ Sara replied, acting so cocky. ‘Are we tired James? Need a bit of a lie down? Ok team, we have made good progress, we are nearly there, so lets have a bit of a rest.’ The General asked. ‘Good!’ James rushed; he quickly rested his head on what seemed to be an uncomfortable rock. He slept.
About 10 minutes in to his sleep, the rest of the team were busy, Sara was lying down on her chest, chatting to Emily via ear-pod, Will was analysing the Rift Energy whilst reading a comic book. The General however, was stood up, looking at the sea, and started rubbing his hands together, like he had been successful in something.
SNAP!
There was a sound of a twig snapping, but there were no trees to make the twigs.
‘Wh… what was that?’ Sara wondered. ‘I don’t know, maybe it was a…’ Will got interrupted by…
SNAP!
There it was again, getting louder, like it was getting closer, before they could say anything, there it was again.
SNAP!
It was really loud now, the team were so frightened, James was still sleepy, waking him up is like waking the dead. The final time the snap was heard.
SNAP!!!
This snap was so loud, it temporarily deafened them, but with the piercing noise, it some how latched them under hypnotic control, and then, Sara and Will were knocked out. So they were all sleeping, in different ways. After about 5 minutes, Sara and Will suddenly woke up, to see the general sleeping on the floor, and then there was something they didn’t see. James.
James had vanished, the rock was there, but he wasn’t. No foot steps, like he just, vanished.
They shook the General awake. He got to his feet, and asked the same question.
‘Where did James go?’ He asked. ‘We were about to ask you the same question.’ Sara replied. ‘Well good riddance, he was really starting to bug me, and you let him be leader of the team?’ The General wondered. ‘One, he isn’t the leader of our team, Jimmy is. He is one of our team members, how could you think such a thing of him? It isn’t a good riddance.’ Sara replied, defending James. ‘Sorry. Anyway, I didn’t take him; if I did, where did you think I put him in this massive field of just crop?’ He asked. ‘Well you can’t really hide him here.’ Will said, taking part of this conversation. ‘We can only go one way, and carry on, we can’t go back, we made it this far.’ Sara said boldly. ‘True, come on team, we can’t give up now!’ The General replied.
They began walking again, towards their destination.
